Gravity waves are seen as cloud wave patterns because of (if I have understood this correctly) an obstruction which disturbs the air flow leading to a periodic pattern in the interface between two air masses: (Image from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gravity_wave) YouTube has this amazing time lapse movie of gravity waves over Iowa.

Maybe it’s because I’m a musician, but the word wave immediately made me think of different musical terms/genres such as ‘new wave’ and ‘no wave’. If you go visit allmusic.com and make a search for song titles with the word ‘wave’, the name Antonio Carlos Jobim pops up.. but then again he’s from Brazil [...]

When I saw the picture of the wavy hairdo au naturel I began thinking about my own children – they also have a wavy hairdo au naturel. A couple of days later I came by this heart with wavy lines… it made me think of all the people I really love. I bought two hearts [...]

Sjaldan er ein báran stök This is an old Icelandic saying, which literarily means that a wave (bára) rarely (sjaldan) comes alone (stök). Waves always come one after another. This saying is used when one bad thing after another seems to happen, they seem to come in waves. Don’t you recognize the feeling that sometimes [...]

Today I red that the Chicago Marathon was cancelled yesterday because of a heatwave. 1 person died and more than 350 were hospitalized – quite a sad story! The temperatures reached 31,6 degrees celsius, which was the highest temperature ever recorded on the 7th of October in Chicago. When I read about such an incident, [...]

I grew up in a small town in Denmark, where the inhabitants didn’t make much fuss about themselves. We did though have one thing to be really proud of: We had waves, and those waves were often mentioned in the broadcasting media. The waves were coming from the Kalundborg Transmitter, a transmission facility for long- [...]

Music is waves. Waves of electric impulses that cause airwaves to be picked up by our ears and make waves in our nervous sytem. It’s also radiowaves and waves of style. On Music Waves you can listen to some music that is on another wavelength than you are used to. Or you can hold your hands to your ears and [...]

Salt is the taste of sweat, tears and a day at the beach. Salt brought us good health, it brought us bacalao, herring preservation, yummy longlasting breads and that never-sinking feeling of flying when one is bathing in places like the Dead Sea and Central Asia’s wonderous Issyk-Kul Lake. Due to scarce sunlight, in Northern Europe salt is being extracted [...]

Here’s an art project I encountered in the front office of the Danish minister of culture Brian Mikkelsen. As far as I know it’s still there. The piece is a seemingly ordinary cup of coffee placed on a windowsill a few metres away from the actual office of the minister. Every 10 seconds, a mechanism triggers shockwaves (well, more [...]

Maroubra, favourite playground for many of Sydney’s surfers due to its windy climate and giant waves. Maroubra means “thunder” in local aboriginal dialect – the name stems from the sound of hard surf hitting the rocks.

I went to Australia a couple of years ago – and we went to Hyden in Western Australia to see Wave Rock – and it was fantastic – even though I have never been in a hot place with so many flies :-) Waves are soft and gentle – and this wave is hard and [...]

Zefrank on waves. The beginning of the movie may appear sort of strange. But hang on. It gets quite profound. Seriously. Click To Play Transcript
