This morning, the police are clearing Ungdomshuset, a house full of radical, young activists. We live close by, and were woken at 7 am by the roar of a helicopter hovering over Ungdomshuset. At nine, in the middle of rush hour, we passed close by where police have cordoned off the area. Loads of people, most heading in the direction of Ungdomshuset and the throng of people and police vehicles. Copenhageners going to work, parents taking their children to day care, curious onlookers. And worst: people attracted to the action, the promise of an adrenalin rush, perhaps even the urge to be close to or a part of violence. You could see it in their eyes. This very strange wave was a frightening blend of normality, everyday life and the worst of human desires.

According to Danmarks Radio, Danish Broadcasting Corporation, 6-7 people were arrested just around that time. No one hurt yet, everything progressing ‘quietly’. Relatively speaking, that must be.

The helicopter is still up there. I wonder what waves today will bring. I wish things were different.
