Plain ole waves
February 8th, 2007 by Katrine
Invention by metaphor is cool. And dynamite is not so bad either, even when it is (perhaps?) fake.
But I am missing my favourite kind of wave here: The ocean kind. Think for instance of the sensation when sand and stones are sucked from underneath your feet by a receding wave. Or of floating on your back with closed eyes, letting the water slosh in and out of your ears, losing sense of time, only registering the motion of the ocean. Of legging it from the beach into the water, skipping over waves, as fast as possible because the water is so cold that any hesitation is bound to make you turn back. Think of the roar, the fun, the unstoppability, the uniqueness of each wave.
I like. You like?

Ahhhh - me like very much :-) And you’re right. In our eagerness to explore the many wavy patterns and metaphors the obvious reason for our choice of theme disappered… we love the ocean, the waves, the water.
Thank you for reminding us…
Melikes as well, for the very same reasons. Because waves reenergize me by their constant-ness, by their rocking me like a giant womb-like cradle, the Universal Mother (very Freudian - “oceanic feeling” - indeed.
By achieving an oceanic-like feeling (spiritual one-ness with the universe), waves bring us back to our primal and yet higher Selves and thus inspire us to never cease exploration. That is why we here playfully search for patterns, that is why we associate and why we tend to leave the obvious, the (almost) tangible, real waves.
May they never be forgotten.
We salute Thee, O mighty waves of the Oceans!
