This wave can grow silently, without anyone noticing. Naturally what initially pops up in my mind as examples of "The Wave <i>outside the classroom</i>" are political movements (right and left wing as well as religious-political movements). How about fashion as a wave that grows silently without people noticing? That eliminates people's abilities to think for themselves? A wave, oh yes, yet a bad wave indeed: as it kept rolling in on the students’ minds and their lives, it eliminated their abilities to truly realize the potential danger, not forgetting their abilities to think for themselves.

This wave can grow silently, without anyone noticing.

Naturally what initially pops up in my mind as examples of “The Wave outside the classroom” are political movements (right and left wing as well as religious-political movements).

How about fashion as a wave that grows silently without people noticing? That eliminates people’s abilities to think for themselves?
